La jeune artiste franco- américaine Marina Anne Nolles, sous le pseudo de M.A.N, livre une pop sombre : des textes noirs délicatement déposés dans un écrin de velours.

M.A.N c’est une voix qui vous happe, à la fois brûlante et glaciale car tout en elle n’est que contraste. C’est un son, tantôt brutal, tantôt délicat, entre blues vaudou et électro contemporaine, un voyage cinématographique. Dans un petit studio toulousain, l’artiste franco-américaine s’est entourée du guitariste/producteur Étienne Zénone et du musicien électro Romain Roux, pour créer ce projet hybride, à la croisée des deux cultures.
On s’abandonne volontiers à cette volupté, pour être brutalement relâchés au sol. Dans un cocon de velours et parfois d’humour, gisent des idées noires, reflet d’un monde où la beauté côtoie la violence, dévoilant les combats d’une femme artiste toujours sur la brèche, en équilibre.

M.A.N est une voix

Très jeune, Marina a trouvé dans le chant une façon naturelle de s’exprimer. Tradition américaine oblige, elle a baigné dans le jazz, la soul, la folk, et va vite développer un goût pour les voix suaves qui délivrent leur puissance dans la douceur. Avec des textes parfois âpres, sa voix, fruit d’un mélange d’époques et de couleurs, vient vous chauffer l’oreille pour vous laisser planer dans de magnifiques moments suspendus.

M.A.N est une femme

Marina est une artiste femme, et après de nombreuses études et voyages, la musique devient le véhicule de ses questionnements : le rapport entre les hommes et les femmes, celui qu’on l’on entretient avec son corps ou les dangers environnementaux qui nous affectent. Et elle crée la surprise car sous des airs irrésistibles et innocents elle raconte parfois des histoires sordides : excision, viol, têtes coupées, cancer explosif… En juxtaposant esthétique et horreur, ses textes sont une satire d’un monde schizophrène.

M.A.N est un son

Pour l’aider à réaliser son projet, elle fait appel à Etienne Zénone compositeur et guitariste toulousain ainsi que Romain Roux, créateur de musiques électroniques. Etienne, encyclopédie vivante de la musique du XXème siècle est passé par le blues, la surf music, le punk, la chanson, le rap et a collaboré avec des centaines d’artistes. Romain, issu de l’improvisation jazz avec son saxophone baryton, est inventif et passionné d’électronique. Ensemble ils s’accordent pour créer une musique élégante explorant à la fois les sons du passé et du présent.

M.A.N est un fruit des 90’s

Enfant de son époque dans son rapport à l’image, M.A.N écrit et co-réalise ses propres clips. Inspirés par les guitares twang d’Etienne, ils créent ensemble un univers cinématographique, empruntant à Lynch, Tarantino ou Sofia Coppola. Marina se démarque sans doute en étant tout naturellement d’une autre époque, celle où la musique était plus importante que tout, où l’on prenait le temps d’écouter un album en entier pour y découvrir un univers unique et rêver avec.
